Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Registration
Q:
I was previously registered with another club through USA Swimming. How do I transfer to Aquastorm? |
A:
Swimmers will need to complete a USA Swimming athlete registration form, indicating Aquastorm (AQST) as the club. This form is available in the Aquastorm club registration packet.
Section 203.3 of the current edition of the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations provides that; “For a swimmer to represent a USA Swimming club in a competitive event, one hundred twenty (120) consecutive days must have elapsed without the swimmer having represented any other USA Swimming club in USA Swimming competition.”
However, during this 120 period, a swimmer may choose to participate in meets as “unattached”.

Q:
What does it mean to swim “unattached”? |
A:
Swimmers that transfer from one USA Swimming team to another are required to swim as "unattached" for 120 days starting from their last USA Swimming sanctioned meet. Swimming unattached does not affect an individual swimmers times or standings; it merely means the swimmer will not accrue team points at a meet during the unattached period. Meet registration will be handled by the club, and Aquastorm members swimming unattached will still be coached by Coach Joseph and will be able to wear Aquastorm gear.
Example #1: John is a swimmer in a USA Swimming licensed club that wishes to join Aquastorm. He files his Aquastorm registration on November 2nd. John will be required to swim unattached for 120 days from the last USA Swimming sanctioned meet he swam in, which was ND State Long Course Championship, July 31st – August 2nd. If John chooses to swim at a meet on November 22nd, he will swim as unattached as his 120 day waiting period has not expired. However, his waiting period will expire at the beginning of December, and he will swim as an Aquastorm team member from that point forward.
Example #2: Jane is also a swimmer in another USA Swimming club that wishes to join Aquastorm. Jane swims at the same November 22nd meet as John, but chooses not to register with Aquastorm until December 1st. Jane’s 120 day waiting period will begin November 23rd, so Jane will swim unattached for the duration of the ND State Short Course season as her waiting period will not expire until March 22nd, 2010. During that time, Jane can be on deck with the team and be coached by Aquastorm, but will not accrue team points.
Example #3: Joe’s last USA Swimming sanctioned meet was the ND State Short Course Championship in March of 2009. He would now like to swim with Aquastorm and completes his registration paperwork on November 10th. Joe’s sister Jill, who has never registered with a USA Swimming club before, also registers with Aquastorm. Both Joe and Jill will swim at the November 22nd meet as Aquastorm team members and accrue team points as Joe’s 120 days have expired and Jill does not have a waiting period as a first time USA Swimming club member.

Q:
If I register with Aquastorm in November, where will I practice until the Aquatic Center is completed? |
A:
Swimmers will need to check with their current or other existing clubs to see if they will be allowed to practice with them if they are not registered with that team through USA Swimming. The Bismarck YMCA has acknowledged that swimmers who are planning to swim for Aquastorm and who are or will be registered with USA Swimming as Aquastorm may practice on the YMCA Golden Seals Swim Team until the new Aquatic Center is open, which is anticipated to be mid-December. |
| |
Q:
Will I be required to pay Aquastorm club fees prior to the completion of the Aquatic Center? |
A:
Aquastorm has an annual registration fee that is required to register an athlete with USA Swimming that is due with the registration form. Monthly club fees will not be paid until the team is ready to start practicing together. Meet fees must be paid to the club for any meet the swimmer chooses to attend and Aquastorm Head Coach Loic Joseph will register the swimmer for the meet(s). |
| |
Q:
How is Aquastorm being coached during the transition to the Aquatic Center?
A:
Aquastorm Head Coach Loic Joseph will continue coaching at the YMCA until October 31st. The excellent staff of coaches at the YMCA will continue to provide practices that have been designed by Coach Joseph while the YMCA fills the head coach position. Coach Joseph will be on deck coaching the Aquastorm team at meets during this interim phase. |
